What to do about suspected hackers

This applies to all servers not just the Spawnpoint servers.

When you think someone is using hacks, but it's not completely obvious, follow these steps for best results:

1) Don't say anything over text or voice chat. Cussing or accusing them is pointless. If they aren't actually hacking, you're just harassing them. If they are hacking, then you are going to make them toggle their hacks off and do things to make it look like they're not hacking.

2) Leave the server.

3) Change your nickname to something inconspicuous.

4) Rejoin the server and begin spectating the suspect.

5) Begin recording a demo by opening your console and typing record demoname where demoname is the name of the suspect.

6) When applicable, type sb_status and status in the console to have their identity recorded in the demo.

7) Watch for as many rounds as necessary. Type stop in the console when finished.

8) To add them to the Spawnpoint Global Ban List, email the .DEM file (located in your cstrike folder) to hacker@phxx.net.

Keep in mind that if it's not an obvious hack, the player could just be very good at the game even if you believe they are hacking. For this reason, harassment of the suspect is not a good idea unless you want to potentially be a jerk.

Actually you're not totally correct in your blog ;)

If you leave the server you may not be able to get back on to it. Also unless you're an admin there's little point in either leaving or changing your name.

At your 6) Spawnpoint would preferably like sb_status AND status typed as some names come up as "unknown" under sb_status.

If you are watching the hacker/cheat for some time Spawnpoint prefers you to break your demos down into 3 or 4 rounds if possible.

In your 8) the correct email address is hacker@spawnpoint.com ;) Also the hacker / cheat will ONLY be added to the global ban list if the proof is irrefutable.

However Spawnpoint has a "what to do when you spot a hacker" Pdf file on these forums.

Thank you for pointing out my typo. I corrected it, however in the PDF file it lists the email address as hacker@phxx.net and not hacker@spawnpoint.com. Are these forwarded to go to the same inbox?

I did not know about the status command thank you for pointing it out to me.

I think leaving and coming back with a different name applies regardless of whether you're an admin, if the suspected hacker is trying to hide it. They may realize that the good player they've been walling/aimbotting just went spectator and that they are probably being demoed. If he is a blatant hacker then yes doing that is overkill.

I recognize that only irrefutable proof leads to bans which is why I point out that the person being demoed is merely a suspect and should still be treated with respect.
